Assessment of Linseed (RMLS-11) Productivity and Evaluation of Its Value Added Products

Abstract
A study was conducted during 2024-25 and 2025-26 under the jurisdiction of the Agricultural Extension Education Centre, Lingasugur, in collaboration with AICRP-Linseed, University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur. The study aimed to promote the cultivation and consumption of linseed to support nutritional security through frontline demonstrations and capacity-building programmes. Information on the non-adoption of this crop was collected using a pre-structured schedule. Linseed seed was distributed to randomly selected farmers in Lingasugur Taluka of Raichur District. The results revealed that the improved variety RMLS-11 gave a higher yield (4.3 q/acre) than the farmers' local variety (2.5 q/acre). A lack of awareness of the nutritional importance and nutraceutical value of linseed, the non-availability of improved seed varieties, and limited marketing opportunities were the major constraints to the adoption of linseed cultivation recorded using the structured schedule. Regarding the non-adoption of intercropping with other rabi crops, farmers reported that separate harvesting and threshing were tedious and labour-intensive. An extension gap of 1.08 q/acre and a technology gap of 3.8 q/acre were observed during the study period. The preparation and consumption methods of different value-added linseed products were demonstrated through capacity-building programmes. Among the value-added products, linseed hurigalu received the highest acceptability, followed by linseed burfi and chutney powder.
